1. Introduction / Background
The current situation in Gaza remains dire amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas since October 7, 2023. Over 52,908 Palestinians have been killed, mostly civilians including women and children, with more than 119,721 injured. The Israeli military continues intensive operations aiming to destroy Hamas and free hostages, with reports of forced displacement of nearly all Gaza's 2.3 million residents and widespread destruction of infrastructure, hospitals, and homes.
Also, food insecurity is at catastrophic levels: the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report indicates that the entire population of Gaza is facing “crisis” or worse levels of acute food insecurity, with 22% classified as being in “catastrophe”, meaning they are at imminent risk of famine.

3. Governments’ Response
The Qatari prime minister said Wednesday he does not expect to see progress soon from the negotiations his country is holding over a ceasefire in Gaza, criticizing Israel for sending a “bad signal” by continuing to bomb the enclave while dispatching a delegation to the talks.
Israel has issued one of the most sweeping evacuation orders for civilians in Gaza yet seen in this war. Large swathes of Gaza City, an area already partially destroyed by bombing, have been declared unsafe, the residents taking shelter there told to leave for their own safety ahead of "intense strikes" by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
4. Military Developments
Israeli forces intensify attacks on Gaza, killing at least 84 Palestinians since dawn, medics say. Victims include 50 people who were killed in northern Gaza.
Palestinian news agency Wafa is reporting that the man was shot in the back by Israeli forces in a raid on the town of Azzun, east of Qalqilya in the northern occupied West Bank.

6. Impact On the Trade and Travel
Ongoing conflicts and tensions in the Middle East continue to pose a risk to global supply chains. Key maritime routes, such as the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, are vulnerable.
7. International Response
Russia, China and the UK have rejected a US-Israeli plan for distributing aid in Gaza, instead urging Israel to lift its two-month blockade on Gaza.
US President Donald Trump, who is visiting Saudi Arabia, says he is working to end the conflict in Gaza as soon as possible.
US President Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, says he is hopeful that a Gaza deal can be reached after he held talks in Qatar’s capital with Qatari officials and the families of Israeli captives.
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has announced it will launch operations in Gaza before the end of the month, adding that Israel has agreed to expand the number of “Secure Distribution Sites” to serve the Strip’s entire population, according to a statement.
8. Comment.
The Gaza war remains the central and most devastating conflict, with Israel and Hamas locked in a protracted struggle. Despite a partial ceasefire initiated in January 2025, violence continues intermittently, and efforts to negotiate a permanent ceasefire have repeatedly stalled. Israel has significantly degraded Hamas’s military capabilities but insists on disarmament as a condition for peace, while Hamas demands a permanent end to hostilities and the release of hostages.
