1. Introduction / Background 

The current situation in Gaza remains dire amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas since October 7, 2023. Over 52,800 Palestinians have been killed, mostly civilians including women and children, with more than 119,000 injured. The Israeli military continues intensive operations aiming to destroy Hamas and free hostages, with reports of forced displacement of nearly all Gaza's 2.3 million residents and widespread destruction of infrastructure, hospitals, and homes.

Freed Israeli captive Ohad Ben Ami appealed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump following the release of a video showing Israeli captives Elkana Bohbot and Yosef Chaim Ohana in captivity. 

The Israeli government has not prioritised the safe return of captives amid its ongoing war on Palestinians in Gaza, a new investigation by Israeli news outlet Ynet has revealed.

The Israeli army said 11.05.2025 that the body of a soldier missing for 43 years had been found in the “heart of Syria” and repatriated in a special operation with the Mossad intelligence agency.


5. Militants’ Activity

A new video released by Hamas’s armed wing on Saturday shows two Israeli hostages, Elkana Bohbot and Yosef Haim Ohana, alive in Gaza. The undated footage is the latest in a series of videos released since the collapse of a temporary ceasefire in March.

Palestinian factions in Lebanon remain uncertain over reports of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas calling for armed Palestinian groups to disarm. The call reportedly stems from a request made by Saudi Arabia.

Bezeq Israel Telecom, opens new tab on Sunday raised its adjusted net profit expectation for 2025 to 1.32 billion shekels ($372 million) from 1.2 billion.

Israel's largest telecoms group also raised its estimate for adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) to 3.75 billion shekels from 3.7 billion, while maintaining a forecast that deployment of its fibre-optics network would reach 2.9 million homes this year.

Trump recently repeated a U.S. pledge to help get food to Palestinians in Gaza. A U.S.-backed mechanism for getting aid into Gaza should take effect soon, Washington's envoy to Israel also said on 09.05.2025.

The UAE has launched the fourth phase of its humanitarian water supply initiative in the Gaza Strip this week. The project is part of the ongoing “Operation Chivalrous Knight 3,” aimed at alleviating the suffering of Palestinian civilians amid a worsening humanitarian crisis

Pope Leo XIV called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the delivery of emergency aid into the besieged enclave and the release of captives.
